The aim of this book is to provide essential reference material for people working in the field of HIV and learning disability. For this reason it has a clear practice bias, drawing on the experience of successful services and practitioners already working in the field in innovative ways. Best practice does not exist in a vacuum however, therefore some chapters include analyses of relevant management and organisation issues. This report was produced with funding from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation after consultation with disabled people about how they want service providers to support their sexual rights.

The book includes ideas for discussion and agenda setting. It sets out in a charter key principles including a rights model which emphasises autonomy, visible role models, user-led services, access to a broad range of services which regularly evaluate their service provision and staff roles which focus on assistance rather than care.
